2012 February 07 From dancing while getting ready with my roommate, to the personal concerts I hold in my car, this girl loves to dance. Actually, I have a signature dance face and move. I poke out my lips real far and bring my arms up to my chest. It looks a little something like this: Oh yeah. This picture was taken several years ago but I still make that same face when I’m feelin’ funky. I was at lunch with a group of girls the other day and a quick glance around the table proved that each girl had her own dance style. We each were bobbing our heads to the music while eating. Not only that, but a few minutes later one of the girls busted out with a karaoke solo to the enjoyment of the entire restaurant. I tell this to you because I think each one of us, even the most shy among us, can’t help but tap our foot when we hear a good jam. Harnessing this inevitability and pairing it with funky clothes makes for a great girls event. Last semester we held an 80’s Workout Night at the church for our girls. We had a free Zumba class and then talked about body image. Now, if you haven’t heard of Zumba, you are missing out! Zumba is a dance workout with a lot of Latin-inspired moves. One of our leaders volunteered to makeup a routine for this event. We had a mix of great upbeat Christian music and the kind of music Staci would enjoy, Justin Bieber (see: I listen to Justin Bieber music.... and I like it). We had a huge crowd and the girls really want to do it again and SOON! This event is easy to pull off and your girls will have a blast. You’ll need:
We used the first 30 minutes for Zumba. We had the water set up in the back so that anyone could grab a quick drink at anytime. After the Zumba class we all sat down and had a great teaching time lead by one of our Sunday school leaders. Of course, we had to take a few pictures because we were decked out in our 80’s gear. Remember, if you are interested in doing a fun event like this, make sure that you cover the event in prayer and continue to drive home the gospel. Having fun with our girls is so important because they are so relational, but we must remember that Jesus loves them more completely than we ever could. Have fun but most importantly show them the love of Christ.

Dance is a performing art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture with crazy shooters in it. Ca MikeDecember 21, 2018 8:50 PM
