Girls Ministry in the Home
2010
August 06

We had waited for this day for 5 months. Would our lives soon be filled with trucks and trains or would we be living in a world of pink? It didn’t matter if our baby was a boy or a girl, but we (mostly me) longed to know. Our little one was quite stubborn, or perhaps just modest, but finally we caught a glimpse; the little person growing inside me was a girl!

I didn’t feel the weight of this until later that day. I had devoted my life to ministering to girls and discipling them to be mature, godly women. I had routinely encouraged mothers that they have the unique opportunity to do this. The Lord was now giving me this sweet privilege – to implement girls ministry in my own family. The opportunity brings tears to my eyes and an overwhelming sense of responsibility to my heart.

What a personal reminder that training and encouraging moms should be a vital part of any girls ministry!?! Mothers have the opportunity to live out the gospel and model Titus 2 for their daughters 24/7, when youth leaders typically get 2 or 3 hours a week with their daughters. What can you do to equip moms? Have you thought about hosting an event that encourages mother/daughter fellowship and communication, or asking a seasoned mom or group of moms to lead a seminar for less experienced mothers?

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord your God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you life down, and when you rise.”

– Deuteronomy 6:4-7 ESV
