Top 10 (ahem... 11) in 2010
2011

Unlike late night’s “Top Ten” it’s hard to put an order to the workings of God.  I mean, what’s more amazing: God parting the Red sea, allowing thousands to pass through un-harmed or God bringing back to life one man who had been dead 3 days?  Yea, I think you see what we mean.  :)

So instead of trying to list from most to least amazing the following “God Moment” stories that Girls Ministry workers from all over the country have graciously shared with us, we are just going to list them in no particular order.

Our prayer is that you are strengthened and encouraged as you read the stories of God’s moving in the lives of women just like you.

Oh yea, and there are actually 11 stories .. not just 10.  What can we say?  Bravo God.

“All your works praise you, LORD;
your faithful people extol you.
They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.”

Psalm 145:10-13

A girl who has been running from God started visiting church after 2.5 years of being away. God is drawing her back to himself. Amazing to watch!

One of our 9th grade girls gave up going on our summer mission trip (which she really wanted to go on) in order to be with her volleyball team in Reno for a tournament. She realized that God was calling her to be a missionary on her team, and she spent the semester and the summer investing in their lives. At camp this summer, 3 of her teammates attended and one got saved!

This time last year at our High School Winter Camp I was introduced to Stephanie.  Stephanie shared with me after my husband spoke that night that she understood what Christ has done for her and she wanted to surrender her life to Him and live each day for Him. She did not have a church background and had not grown up in a believing home, and after we returned home from camp she began coming over to our home and asking us questions about God and the Bible.  My husband had the privilege of baptizing her, she began being discipled by her Sunday school teacher, and is apart of a new church family. How incredible it has been to watch this transformation in her life over the past year! Even more amazing was when Stephanie came to me a few months ago, and with excitement in her voice exclaimed that her mom had accepted Christ as Lord and Savior! Praise the Lord for His salvation, goodness, and transforming power!

I would say our top "God Moments" this year would be through our Father/Daughter initiatives. I run on the school calendar, so actually both of our Father/Daughters events happened in 2010 and both were awesome. At least DOUBLE what I expected showed up for each event and both really bonded girls and their Dads.  One of these Father/Daughter initiatives was Father/Daughter Football.  It was just awesome to see Dads getting out and being active...something a lot of them don’t do on a regular basis (and many couldn't move the next day) and then also seeing the girls do something that was more on Dads level....instead of just wanting to go shopping or whatever. We had a cookout after the crisp fall football morning and I also provided each of them with a coupon for a free smoothie and 10 conversation starters to go out and have a daddy/daughter date afterwards. All the dads were really appreciative of the time to stop and be with their girls...and that was what was most cool about it....we (the church) were really just a resource and a facilitator to spiritual and emotional bonding between girls and dads...we weren't taking over any roles...we were just a resource to help it happen!

One of the most memorable God Moment's for me this year was a special act of kindness and generosity.  One of my senior leader girls was given money for a prom dress from her grandmother.  This special young lady, Allie, prayed that God would lead a Godly young man to ask her to the prom.  She had invitations, but none she felt were appropriate, and began to pray what God would have her do. Through the leadership of the Holy Spirit she felt led to spend her dress money to buy roses for residents of a local nursing home. Although an "appropriate" invitation later came along, Allie knew what God had led her to do.  So, the night of her prom, she spent the evening with a friend delivering handwritten notes and roses at the nursing home.  Her obedience and faithfulness to follow Christ remind me "This is why I do this!!!"

I've only been here a few months, so I don't have many memories to choose from yet :), but there is one that stands out in my mind…

We had our first Girl's Event during December called "Holiday Make and Take." 75 students and leaders showed up, and it was awesome! The event was designed to connect our women leaders in the church with our youth girls, and it ended up being a huge success. We served a large breakfast and had 7 different stations set up in our student center, led by our women leaders, and each station consisted of hand embroidery, scrap-booking, art/painting, cooking, cards/stationary, bow-making, and jewelry. It really gave the girls an opportunity to not only connect with the Godly women in our church, but gave them an opportunity to learn and search through many different gifts and talents that they will be able to share with others for God's glory. It was a beautiful time of fellowship, food, and laughter. Before starting, I read out of Romans and encouraged the girls that we all have different gifts that make up one body of Christ. It continues to say that some have the gift of encouragement, teaching, service, mercy, and giving. Yet, whichever gift we have, we are to do it cheerfully. I know God can and will use our students and their gifts to reveal His glory to others, and I can't wait to see how He will use them!

A top moment was to see the girls who I have worked with since middle school become seniors.   During our Wednesday night small groups last semester they were sharing their faith with guests who are unbelievers.  It has been encouraging to have them ask for more training and see their excitement as they apply the Word in their lives.

This was actually a big year of change in my world of ministry. Our family changed churches and my specific ministry changed from middle school girls to high school girls.  The small group of girls I was given to lead had experienced a rough year with their previous leader leaving the church unexpectedly and I was given the challenge to "pick up the pieces" and hopefully regain the trust of these girls.  They are awesome, event going, Bible study attending kind of girls but one thing I saw missing was a heart for service and a realization that God had called them and equipped them to be servants on their school campuses.  It has been so awesome to see these girls grow SO much in the past 5 months just through serving their school... the students/friends they see everyday!  They've baked hundreds of cookies to take to their last football game for all the players, cheerleaders, and band members.  They are starting a non-profit to send shoes to Swaziland where they previously went on a mission trip and the list goes on!!  Being involved in their lives is such a privilege and watching them fall more in love with their Savior and His people is priceless!

One of the sweetest moments of 2010 with the girls was during the last session at our Girls Retreat!  We spent the morning learning about God's relentless pursuit of His children and the nations! We heard about the viral sex trade affecting girls, poverty, ways we can serve in our own community, the overwhelming need for the gospel to a lost world and how we can be a part of loving the nations!  While having knowledge of such needs is important, we must actively be a part of giving, praying, and going!  Something we could do that day was pray, so all the girls made their way through a prayer walk! Stations resembling areas of the world were set-up and middle school and high school girls were kneeling, standing with arms raised, reading Scripture and asking the Lord to bring salvation to the nations.  This was a moment we will never forget!  Our God is so good to give young ladies a heart for the nations!

This year has been a year of transition for us. A new student pastor joined us in September just after school started.  In the midst of searching for him, during a season without a clear leader or direction, it was amazing to watch the girls minister to each other and "be" the girls ministry.  We had a great event to welcome new freshmen girls in August where several junior girls attended to share wisdom and make connections with the upcoming freshman girls.  We also have a great group of junior girls who have stepped up in leadership over the past few months, spending their spare time or days off with us in the office helping us in many ways.  It's been so encouraging to see God at work in their lives and growing them into godly young women and leaders... to His glory!

I loved reading these. Praise Him! So encouraging to see how God is rising up leaders from the younger generation to lead out and do amazing things for Him!
