You know you’re a Girls Minister When….

• You find yourself using text lingo like “lol” and “idk” to people other than teenagers.
• You can justify seeing the Justin Bieber movie for ministry purposes.
• You use the color pink…a lot.
• You average about 17 exclamation marks in any given text, tweet, or email.
• You wear jeans and flip flops to work.
• The rest of your Student Ministry Staff regularly vetos your youth-wide event ideas for being “too girlie”.
• You schedule your pedicures around church camps and mission trips.
• You've ever had to explain to your hairdresser, neighbor, friend, dentist, and other youth pastors what exactly a Girl's minister does.
• Your office is cuter than any of the other Student Ministry offices.
• You have more middle school friends on facebook than ones your own age.
• Your craft ideas are the ones being pinned on pinterest.
• You find yourself painting a girls’ nails at the end of a discipleship meeting.
• Your last shirt was purchased from Forever 21.
• 80% of your twitter followers are under the age of 18.
• You get better sleep on a 15 hour bus ride than you did all week in the hotel on a mission trip.
• The Papa Johns knows you by name when you call

Ha! These are just a few examples of the awesome ridiculousness that goes into living, breathing, and loving Girls Ministry and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’ll admit, while I have a love and appreciation for pink, it’s not my favorite color. But it’s the frills of girliness that remind girls of their feminity and today there couldn’t be a more important message than that! It’s good to celebrate being a woman and Girls Ministry is one definite place we do not need to be concerned with being “gender neutral”. So I invite you, encourage you, charge you even to over use exclamation marks, disciple a girl while painting her nails, don that flyer with lace, polka dots, and glitter, and seek the beauty of feminity – you are after all, working with girls!
